Thank you JMH. There are so many restore points I would not know which one to choose to start the scan for affected programs. I don't know when this problem started happening except to say that I started doing some mainframe consulting and my client used the read reply request for emails sent to me and that is when I noticed the problem.

My PST files are not pre- Outlook-2003 and the largest is 517 Meg. The second is only 265 K. I am not sure about it being Unicode. How can I check? I had tried to run Outlook in XP compatibility mode but it failed to work - had trouble setting up my IMAP accounts (failed). Once I unchecked this property, I had no problems creating them. UPDATE: Outlook just stopped working and restarted itself. I noticed it was in SEND/ RECEIVE mode at 16%. If your PST Properties show Office Outlook Personal Folders File they are Unicode, if they show Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File they are not. But either way your PST files are too small to be problematic, and though maintenance with scanpst.exe is always helpful, I don't think it will solve your problem. Based on your answers and your subsequent post, I don't have any good ideas. How long has it been since you installed Outlook 2003 on your Win 7 machine? It may help to rebuild your Mail Profile. When you installed Outlook 2003 onto Windows 7, did you bring it up to SP3? SP3 is required for Win 7 compatibility: Also, have a look here and see if you spot anything: EDIT: this page seems to cover Win 7 compatibility issues in an orderly manner: - John. Discussion in ' Microsoft Outlook Discussion' started by Guest, Dec 28, 2006. Suddenly I cannot start outlook ( I have outlook 2003 and it was working until 1 1/2 hour ago). I have done some research but none of the stuff I found (including seem to help. What I get as the error info is as follows: App Name: outlook.exe App Ver: App Stamp:43d16d53 Mod Name: ntdll.dll Mod Ver: Mod Stamp:411096b4 f Debug: 0 Offset: 0000eddc Then the dump info is something like: Module 1: OUTLOOK. EXE. followed by some details. Module 2: ntdll.dll. Module 3: kernel32.dll. Module 4: OUTLLIB. DLL. Module 5: msvcrt.dll. Module 6: advapi32.dll.through. Module 155: OUTLPH. DLL. Then there is thread information, and what seems like a full dump. It also says that it will send the file C:\ DOCUME~1\\ LOCALS~1\ Temp54812.cvr. The file is about 2 K and is binary. I am running Outlook 2003 SP2 (build, I think). This is very frustrating. Hi Kathleen, Thanks for your reply. Here is the info. I suspected the ntdll.dll but I don't know why it is causing the problem. In any case, the even ID is 1000 generated by Microsoft Office 11. THe properties for the event reads: Faulting application outlook.exe, version, stamp 43d16d53, faulting module ntdll.dll, version, stamp 411096b4, debug? 0, fault address 0x0000eddc. For more information, see Help and Support Center at I checked ntdll.dll and acording to one website ( it should be safe it is in a system directory. And it is in 3 directories. There are 3 files with that name (all the same size and mod-date). \ WINDOWS\ I386\ NTDLL. DLL (last accessed 3 minutes ago) \ WINDOWS\system32 tdll.dll (last.
